Solar Stopped Working? Installer Out of Business? A Licensed San Diego Electrician Will Fix It.
We repair “orphaned” solar systems whose installer is gone, including Sunnova, Freedom Forever, Titan Solar, Lumio and others, and we service original SunPower systems too. You get a flat-fee $250 diagnostic, and you deal with an electrician, not a salesperson.
Solar diagnostic: $250 flat. Written quote before any repair. CSLB Lic. #1054997 (C-10).
Is your solar actually working?
Many homeowners don’t notice until a big SDG&E bill arrives. Signs your system needs service:
- Your SDG&E bill jumped even though your usage didn’t change
- The inverter shows a red or orange light, an error code, or a blank screen
- Your monitoring app (Enphase Enlighten, mySunPower, SolarEdge, Tesla) says “offline” or shows zero production
- One section of panels produces much less than the rest
- The breaker for the solar keeps tripping
- You see a roof leak, or critters nesting, near the panels
Your Installer Went Out of Business. Now What?
When an installer shuts down, your panels and inverters usually still have manufacturer warranties, but nobody is left to diagnose the problem, file the claim, or do the labor. That’s the gap we fill.
Installers whose customers we help
- Sunnova: owned systems. If your Sunnova system is a lease or PPA, the company that owns the system is responsible for service (see “Leased systems” below).
- Freedom Forever: the Temecula-based installer with a large San Diego County footprint.
- Titan Solar
- Lumio
- Original SunPower system owners (systems installed before October 2024). The SunPower name is now used by a different company that doesn’t service those legacy systems. Lease and PPA customers are handled by SunStrong Management. If you own your system, we can help.
- Tesla/SolarCity, local installers that closed, and “I have no idea who installed it” are welcome too.
What We Do
- Diagnose: on-site testing of panels, inverters/microinverters, wiring, breakers and monitoring.
- Explain: a plain-English report of what failed, what it costs to fix, and what’s covered by warranty.
- Warranty help: we work with the equipment manufacturer on warranty parts when they’re eligible.
- Repair: like-for-like where possible, so your existing SDG&E net-metering (NEM) arrangement isn’t disrupted.
Maynard Electric Inc. is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an authorized dealer of SunPower, Sunnova, Freedom Forever, Titan Solar, Lumio, Tesla, or any equipment manufacturer named on this page.

Fix It First, Then Consider a Battery
Our first goal is to get your existing system producing again. Once it’s healthy, adding a battery can make sense for some homeowners: backup during outages, and storing daytime solar for SDG&E’s expensive evening peak.
- Ask us about battery storage options for your existing solar system.
- Customers of San Diego Community Power may qualify for battery incentives when they already have solar. Program rules and amounts change, so we’ll check current eligibility for your address.
Why Homeowners Call Maynard Electric
- A licensed electrical contractor (C-10), not a solar sales company. We fix what you have before suggesting anything new.
- Owner-operated: Mark Maynard founded Maynard Electric in 2019, and we’ve been serving San Diego ever since.
- Upfront pricing: flat-fee diagnostic and written quotes before any work starts.
- Protects your net-metering status: like-for-like repairs whenever possible.
- Warranty: 1-year warranty on labor.
- Local: based in San Diego, serving all of San Diego County.
How It Works
- Tell us what’s happening. Use the form, call, or text a photo of your inverter screen or app error.
- Quick triage. We’ll often know the likely cause from the photo and tell you whether a visit makes sense.
- Diagnostic visit. $250 flat fee.
- Written quote, then repair. No surprise charges. We handle permits and SDG&E paperwork if any are needed.
Leased or PPA System?
If you lease your system or pay for its power under a PPA, the company that owns the equipment is usually responsible for repairs, and unauthorized work can cause problems with your contract.
- Original SunPower leases/PPAs: contact SunStrong Management.
- Sunnova leases/PPAs: contact the company currently servicing your agreement (check your latest bill or agreement).
- Not sure whether you own it? Check whether you make a monthly solar payment to a company other than a lender. Or send us your paperwork and we’ll help you figure it out. If the system owner authorizes us, we may be able to do the work.

Solar Repair FAQ
How do I know if my solar panels are not working?
Check your monitoring app for zero or low production, look for a red or orange light or an error code on the inverter, and compare your SDG&E bills. A sudden jump with the same usage is a common sign. Send us a photo of the inverter or app and we’ll help you interpret it.
My solar company went out of business. Who services my system now?
If you own the system (paid cash or with a loan), you can hire any licensed contractor, and your equipment warranties from the panel and inverter makers usually still apply. Maynard Electric diagnoses and repairs systems from installers that have closed, such as Sunnova, Freedom Forever, Titan Solar and Lumio. If you lease or have a PPA, the system’s owner handles service.
Who services original SunPower systems now?
The company now using the SunPower name doesn’t service systems installed before October 2024. Lease and PPA customers of the original SunPower should contact SunStrong Management. If you own your system, a licensed independent contractor like Maynard Electric can diagnose and repair it.
How much does a solar diagnostic cost?
Our diagnostic is $250 flat. You’ll get a written quote before any repair work starts.
Will a repair affect my NEM 2.0 net-metering status?
Like-for-like repairs and replacements generally don’t change your net-metering arrangement. Adding capacity can trigger SDG&E review. We explain any interconnection impact before work begins.
Can you add a battery to my existing solar system?
Yes. Once your system is working, we can evaluate battery storage and check whether you qualify for current local incentives.
